Jean Yves Terlain and Christian Fevrier were in 3rd position of the 103 starters. The experimental mainsail broke in a squall, four days after the start. They swapped their mainsail with the genoa, but two days later, the rudder shaft broke. Gautier waited a week in bad weather for a Canadian container-ship leaving Le Havre with a new rudder and a spare mainsail. They finally arrived in Newport 27 days after the start.

The wind is still blowing at 45 knots, and Enza is under storm jib only, ^^^towing the coiled chain behind to avoid pitchpoling in the steep running waves.
