Carol Walker has a passion for horses and while photographing wild horse herds in Wyoming, Colorado and Montana, she became aware of how precarious their situation on public lands has become. Since then, she has dedicated herself to educating people with her photographs and stories about the wild horses.
Nature Picture Library is delighted to represent many images from Walker's book Wild Hoofbeats: America's Vanishing Wild Horses published by Painted Hills in August 2008. Her shots reveal interesting behaviour of these magnificent animals - aggression between males, mares caring for their foals and herd hierarchies.
