Here are the highlights of new images uploaded to our site between May and July 2014. Our editor's choice includes African wildlife from new contributors Lou Coetzer and Will Burrard-Lucas, sharks and orcas in action, the newly discovered olinguito, dramatic ibex from Radomir Jakubowski, the amazing Chinese giant salamander, new insects from Solvin Zankl and Stephen Dalton, and some super cute pets.

NPL photographers enjoyed great success in the major European photography competitions of 2014. This gallery shows award-winning and commended individual images and portfolios. Here are some of the major awards:~~• Neil Aldridge was overall winner of the GDT European Wildlife Photographer of the Year.~• Alex Badyaev, Bruno D’Amicis, Tim Laman and Bence Mate were all category winners in the 50th Wildlife Photographer of the Year.~• Ben Cranke, Pal Hermansen and Sven Zacek won first prizes in the Melvita awards.~• Pete Cairns, Alex Mustard, Andrew Parkinson and Nick Upton each won a category of the British Wildlife Photography Awards.

Highlights added to our site in the 2 months to February 2014 included dramatic sharks and other marine life from new contributors Chris and Monique Fallows, bold winter portraits of European lynx and wolves from Edwin Giesbers, sifakas in action from Andy Rouse and Nick Garbutt, a wealth of beautiful British landscapes from Adam Burton, unique and endemic wildlife and plants from New Caledonia, Alex Mustard's amazing underwater images from the seas and oceans of the world, and close-ups of the endangered Californian condor by Claudio Contreras.

Highlights of images uploaded to the site in the 3 months upto May 2014 included new photographer Jussi Murtosaari's butterflies in flight, lion-tailed macaques from Anup Shah and Fiona Rogers, cute giant pandas by Andy Rouse, big cat portraits and behaviour by Edwin Giesbers, dramatic landscapes of Lake Baikal by Olga Kamenskaya, Brazilian wildlife from Angelo Gandolfi and new Meet Your Neighbours images from Latin America.
