2020VISION photographers covered many of the UK's iconic bird species in the course of working on their individual missions. In Scotland, capercaillie, ptarmigan and black grouse feature strongly, as well as white-tailed sea eagles and hen harriers. Britain is internationally important for its populations of breeding seabirds and wintering wildfowl and waders. Many farmland birds, such as skylarks, corn buntings and grey partridges have been badly affected by modern agricultural methods, while summer migrants such as swallows, wood warblers and cuckoos are vulnerable during their long flight south to their wintering quarters.
