Each year we take along some new book and calendar ideas to present – and we’re delighted to say that quite a number of them have subsequently turned into live projects and enjoyable collaborations. We have worked with major publishers around the world, including White Star, Bloomsbury, Dumont Reiseverlag, Hachette Childrens and World Book. Here are a couple of the recent titles we’ve worked on, where we supplied most of the images or provided the original inspiration…<\/p>\n
<\/p>\n <\/p>\n We are also really excited to see the new World Book Encyclopedia 2020<\/a> featuring Will Burrard Lucas’s amazing elephant image across its spinescape. Sales from this book set will help the Tsavo Trust<\/a> raise money for its Great Tusker Project to save the last population of “super tuskers” on the planet. Each copy sold will trigger a donation to help save these magnificent animals. Nature Picture Library supported Tsavo Trust as one of our quarterly conservation charities<\/a> and we have already made a donation to support their vital work.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Frankfurt Book Fair is also a brilliant opportunity to see what the German calendar publishers are producing. The stands of leading companies such as Athesia<\/a>, Dumont<\/a>, Ackermann<\/a> and Palazzi<\/a> are always busy with visitors looking at their latest titles and selecting their favourites to buy. It’s always great to see our photographers’ work used in beautiful wall art, especially when we originally suggested a calendar concept. There is also a dedicated calendar exhibition gallery where you can admire titles from a range of publishers submitted for the annual Frankfurt calendar awards. It’s a good place to take a break from the throng of the fair…<\/p>\n The Colours of Nature and Natural Zen titles published by the Athesia imprint Weingarten<\/a> are two fabulous examples of calendar ideas we originally suggested and which feature exclusively Nature Picture Library images…<\/p>\n <\/p>\n <\/p>\n We love going to Frankfurt each year and meeting with lots of our friends in the publishing industry, as well as some of our photographers and partner agents, and of course making some great new contacts! It’s a tiring event though and requires quite a lot of stamina. Here are a few tips, gleaned from experience, about how to survive the Frankfurt Book Fair:<\/p>\n Make appointments in advance – otherwise you may miss key people and also wear out a lot of shoe leather.<\/p>\n Avoid the German halls at the weekend – unless you have very sharp elbows.<\/p>\n Research restaurants in advance and make reservations for each evening – there are some great places to eat, especially if you know your way around Frankfurt’s excellent S-Bahn system!<\/p>\n Boost your immune system before you travel and get plenty of sleep before the Fair – to try and beat the famous Frankfurt cold.<\/p>\n Take a re-usable coffee cup and refillable water bottle – hydration is key and you can also help the environment!<\/p>\n If you’d like to meet up with Tim or Rachelle at Frankfurt, just email timharris@naturepl.com<\/a>\u00a0so that we can fix an appointment.
