Sven Zacek’s Ural owls<\/h3>\n
First we have Ural owls from Sven Zacek, who has been working for several years in the boreal forests of Estonia. His aim was to document the life of this beautiful bird, demonstrating what dedicated parents the owls are. We also have a new feature story on Sven’s Ural owls<\/a> with lots more fascinating images and text.<\/p>\n Jordi Chias has returned from Antarctica, with a great variety of material. As well as landscapes and icebergs, he has shot some great coverage on iconic wildlife of the region. This includes seals, whales and penguins, as well as underwater photos of the rich Antarctic marine life.<\/p>\n Several of our photographers have been documenting urban wildlife. These examples from Oscar Dewhurst and Matt Maran show how wildlife co-exists with man in London, leading to some great photo opportunities!<\/p>\n Doug Gimesy continues to supply us with some amazing Australian material. His latest images include a fantastic set on Little penguins nesting against a backdrop of the lights and highrise blocks of Melbourne.<\/p>\n <\/p>\n Environmental issues have also been a strong focus of recent submissions. David Woodfall has documented the recent climate emergency protests. He has also photographed the shocking practice of netting hedgerows to prevent birds nesting in areas scheduled for development. Meanwhile Joris van Alphen’s aerial image of logging in the Bialowieza Forest in Poland shows that even national parks and UNESCO world heritage sites are threatened by development.<\/p>\n We’ve also added some graphic images of iconic African wildlife – the examples shown here were shot by Tony Heald and Staffan Widstrand in Namibia and South Africa. Staffan witnessed a dramatic confrontation between a young male lion and a herd of buffalo.
