The Kleine Schietfeld area is a valuable resource for the citizens of Antwerp and Belgium’s other cities. Importantly, in a densely populated country, it offers three resources to the local people. Firstly the chance to exercise, secondly the ability to enjoy fresh air and to finally the opportunity to see wildflowers and\u00a0 wildlife. What’s more, animals are used to the presence of people and are less wary than in more remote regions.<\/p>\n

His evocative images feature in a new book and many also featured in an exhibition in the town of Brasschaat. Unfortunately but necessarily the exhibition had to close prematurely due to measures to protect people from the coronavirus outbreak. A scheduled concert by the Bram Weijters Trio, featuring specially commissioned music, has now been rescheduled for 15th January 2021 and the Culture Centre Brasschaat.<\/p>\n

This link will be accessible until midnight January 17th 2021.<\/p>\n “I had\u00a0 previously travelled extensively worldwide in pursuit of photographic subjects. However,\u00a0 I wanted to see what I could achieve in the more challenging conditions of Belgium. So I decided that I would focus for my next project exclusively on photography that I could realise in my own region, close to home. ”<\/p>\n “During the first stage of preparation for the project I was invited by two nature photographers associations to give a lecture on landscape photography. Although the lectures were well received, my suspicion was confirmed. Many nature photographers \u00a0seem to regard landscape photography as some kind of poor relation. After taking the most stunning pictures of the rarest animals, they realise on the last day of their stay that they should also shoot some landscapes. At least this will prove where they have been! This may be an exaggeration, but it contains a grain of truth…”<\/p>\n “So the focus \u00a0for my next project \u00a0became even narrower. Namely to photograph close at home, no more than 15 km from where I live.
