On April 22nd each year millions of people around the world take part in activities to mark Earth Day. The Earth Day Network was founded in 1970 in the USA and now works with partners in 192 countries to broaden, diversify and mobilize the environmental movement. It focuses on providing opportunities for civic engagement, and 1 billion people participate each year in Earth Day activities, making it the largest civil observance in the world. Some of Earth Day's main programmes and initiatives include Greening Schools, Green Cities, Reforestation, Endangered Species and Climate Change. The focus of Earth Day 2018 is on ending plastic pollution. For more information about Earth Day, see www.earthday.org.
