The Okavango River disappears into a gigantic inland delta in the middle of the Kalahari Desert in Botswana. Its rich swamps support a dense aquatic flora amongst which fish, crocodiles, hippos and myriad water birds live. The Zambezi River throws itself down a 100 metre deep basalt gorge at Victoria Falls, between Zambia and Zimbabwe. Up to 10 million litres of water flow into the gorge each second.
