Kitesurfer, Cesar Portas, sliding a local fishing boat, Shandrani Kitesurf Event, Mauritius, 2005. ^^^Every year since 2002 the Shandrani Hotel in Mauritius has held a popular kitesurfing event within the bounds of the beautiful and unspoilt lagoon in the Indian Ocean. The most popular race during the event takes competitors 22KM downwind from the Shandrani Hotel to Isle aux Cerfs (Stag Island) on the east coast, through the largest and most stunning part of the lagoon. The race takes about 3 hours with various breaks on the small sandbanks along the lagoon and opportunities to perform stunts over the waves.
