Processing 'Sago' the primary staple food on Waigeo Island. First the pulp of the Sago Palm tree is gathered. The starch is then extracted by water filtered through a sieve of coconut palm leaf cover, and then it settles out in a trough made from the Sago palm leaf bases. The starch is then stored in tubes made from Sago Palm leaves. The process is unchaged from descriptions from the 1860's and earlier.
