This sub-group of the oplurus is mainly arboreal and can be recognized by the large spiny scales on their tails. They can reach a length of 373mm. During the breeding season the males fight for their territories and do a lot of head bobbing to show dominance. DISTRIBUTION: Northern part of the west coast of Madagascar. They prefer the dry forests. ENDEMIC TO MADAGASCAR
