Rare pygmy blue whale footage

This week’s clip of the week is by Jurgen Freund, and shows rare footage of a pygmy blue whale breathing / blowing at the surface, then diving, in the Banda Sea off Indonesia.

Jurgen describes the experience in his own words:

“We had the great opportunity to dive the Banda Sea in the Moluccas last year, during the time when pygmy blue whales migrate up north from southwest Australia to feed. We were so lucky to see these unbelievable behemoths for a day or two and even photographed them underwater. Their blue beings appeared beside us, then with a gentle swoosh of their fins they were gone. Luckily we had flat calm seas so filming them in their magnificence from above was quite something to behold…”
